Measurement of the diameter of coils and coils with winding control

paper roll coil production

Measuring the diameter of spools and coils is a fundamental process in many industrial sectors. For this reason, measuring instruments are essential to ensure the quality of the final product.

The diameter can be measured with mechanical instruments such as calipers, micrometers or contact probes, but it is also possible to use measuring instruments that allow contactless measurement. These instruments include triangulation LASER sensors and LASER distance meters.

Triangulation LASER sensors are able to measure the diameter with very high precision, thanks to their ability to detect even small variations. Furthermore, these sensors are able to carry out the measurement without contact, in order to avoid any superficial damage to the coils or coils.

Laser distance meters also allow you to measure the diameter at a distance, without the need to get close to the reel or coil. The difference compared to triangulation sensors is that the measuring range of LASER distance meters is significantly higher. In this way the measurement can be carried out from an even safer and more comfortable position for the operator but above all on even large objects (even up to 30 meters in diameter).

In addition to measuring the diameter, these measuring instruments can be used for checking the winding. In this case, triangulation LASER sensors and laser distance meters can detect any defects in the winding such as folds or overlaps.

In some cases it is possible to use the LASER sensors to identify the overlapping point of the edge or the presence of packing straps.

In conclusion, measuring instruments for measuring the diameter of reels and coils are essential to guarantee the quality of the final product. Thanks to the sensors and laser distance meters, it is possible to carry out the measurement precisely and without contact, guaranteeing maximum safety for the operator and maximum efficiency for the industry.
