Moisture meters

Schaller paper moisture measure

Humidity measurement is a crucial aspect in several industrial sectors. In the recycled paper sector, for example, it is essential to maintain humidity at a precise level in order to avoid quality problems. Too high or too low humidity can in fact cause the formation of mould, alter the properties of the product or distort the weight and density values.

Even in food preservation sector humidity plays a fundamental role. Grains and seeds, for example, require specific humidity in order to be stored without running the risk of deteriorating. In this case, in addition to measuring humidity, temperature control is also necessary in order to preserve the quality of the food.

Even in wood and furniture sector humidity is a key variable to keep under control. Excessive humidity can cause damage to wooden structures, causing mold to form and thus making the wood less resistant and durable. At the same time, too low humidity can cause the wood itself to crack.

Finally, humidity is also measured in construction, in particular in the construction and renovation phases of buildings. Maintaining adequate humidity is essential to ensure the durability and resistance of structures and buildings. In this sector, special instruments for measuring humidity are used, such as hygrometers.

In conclusion, humidity measurement represents a critical aspect in various industrial sectors. The choice of suitable tools therefore becomes a fundamental element to guarantee the quality and durability of products and structures. In every sector, the choice of instruments suitable for humidity measurement represents an important investment for the competitiveness and sustainability of your business.

Application

Measure the presence of osmosis phenomena on fiberglass boats.

Locate any parts that have a more pronounced exposure to osmosis than other areas.

Check the state of conservation of wooden boats or the degree of humidity before aesthetic treatments, painting or impregnation.

Solution

Skipper Plus is based on the principle of measuring non-destructive impedance. Coplanar electrodes, mounted on the base of the instrument, transmit low frequency signals in the tested material and measure the variation of impedance caused by the presence of humidity. This reading is indicated on the instrument as a reading of the moisture content.

  • Three ranges for moisture detection in fiberglass and hardwood for fresh and salt water.
  • Wide range of wood readings from 5% to 30% on the hardwood scale and from 0 to 100 on a comparative scale for GRP and other materials
  • Identifies the presence of osmosis in fiberglass hulls.
  • Confirm if the wooden boats are dry enough for painting or varnishing.
  • Track leaks on deck and bulkheads.
  • The "Hold" function facilitates the recording of readings.
  • The soft rubber electrodes come into direct contact without scratching.
  • High humidity acoustic warning tone that can be turned on or off.
  • Battery operated (included)

The Skipper Plus moisture meter is used for:

  • Timely detection before the appearance of osmotic bubbles.
  • Identification of the affected area.
  • Hull monitoring during dehumidification and repair phases.
  • Checking the drying of the abraded areas before recoating.

To obtain lasting finishes and resistance of hulls and wooden components, it is essential to ensure that they are well maintained and that they do not contain excess humidity.

Excess humidity can create phenomena of structural and aesthetic deterioration, both on wooden and fiberglass hulls or special composite materials.
